Tourism Improvement Districts (TIDs) have been an iTIP legislative priority for several years. While progress has been made toward giving Iowa communities access to this tool, there is still work to do to build understanding of how TIDs work and the opportunities they can create.
As communities take a closer look at local budgets and tourism partners consider the long-term stability of their funding, TIDs offer another option to explore. A TID can provide supplemental funding dedicated to tourism, helping destinations invest in efforts that drive visitation and overnight stays. But first, Iowa must pass enabling legislation that gives communities the option to establish a TID.
Join Tiffany Gallagher of Civitas for a closer look at Tourism Improvement Districts. Tiffany will break down how TIDs are formed, funded and managed; how they differ from traditional hotel/motel tax funding; and how communities across the country are putting TID dollars to work. She’ll also discuss what destinations can be doing now to start conversations with lodging partners, business leaders and community stakeholders. Partners will also learn how they can help build understanding and support for enabling legislation.

Her industry experience includes a board position on the New York State Hospitality and Tourism Board of Directors, Past President of the Greater Syracuse Hospitality and Tourism Association, serving on the Board of Directors of Destination Marketing Organizations, Strategic Planning Councils, and Business Improvement Districts. Ms. Gallagher works out of Upstate New York, where she leads, initiates, and manages projects nationwide.
