The Iowa Economic Development Authority (IEDA) is seeking a motivated professional to join its team as the Community Development Communications Manager.

This position coordinates efforts to promote Iowa’s quality of life and vibrant communities as part of IEDA’s marketing strategy to encourage visitors, job seekers and businesses to choose Iowa. The position also manages the marketing and communication needs of assigned IEDA community development programs, including the Iowa Downtown Resource Center, Main Street Iowa, and Empower Rural Iowa.

Salary Range: $57,595.20 – $89,356.80 Annually

General Duties:

  • Develops and utilizes research, data, and resources to promote community and economic development through proactive communication and engaging marketing materials.
  • Writes and edits informational materials, such as letters, website copy, press releases, talking points, fact sheets, and executive summaries.
  • Leverages relationships with communities and stakeholders to identify and direct content development.
  • Serves as primary point of marketing contact for internal staff for community development programs to ensure exceptional internal customer service and that timely marketing needs are met.
  • Develops strategic and targeted marketing materials in support of assigned programs.
  • Represents IEDA|IFA as a spokesperson in response to requests from the media, general public, and other state agencies.

The Community Development Communications Manager position is a non-contract, non-merit position that is classified by the State of Iowa as an Economic Development Specialist 2.

This is a non-merit position with the Iowa Economic Development Authority. Candidates must follow the instructions in the “To Apply” section. Minimum Qualification Requirements

Graduation from an accredited four year college or university with major coursework in research, planning, economics, public relations, business, corporate finance, journalism, or marketing and experience equal to two years of full-time work that involved responsibility for interpreting laws, rules and regulations, and/or securing compliance with them; or compiling and evaluating statistical, historical, economic, business, financial, or technical related or program data;


an equivalent combination of education and experience substituting one year of the above required experience for each year (thirty semester or equivalent hours) of the required education.
